“Phuket Precinct Revisited”
Held between 18 June to 31 August 2005
At the Temporary exhibition room on first floor, the heritage building, King Prajadhipok Museum.
Wishing to present King Prajadhipok and Queen Rambhai Barni’s royal duties during their official visit to Phuket Precinct in 1928, the exhibition used photographs to tell a story of their journey to five south-western coastal cities: Phuket, Phang-nga, Krabi, Takua Pa, and Ranong between 24 January to 11 February 1928. It illustrated the commitment and care they had for the subjects and all aspects of their well-being, inviting the visitors to join in with the exploration of tine mines, diverse natural landscapes such as waterfalls, caves, hot springs, mountains, islands and the sea. Through the photographs taken by H.M. the King and the newly-created paintings, the visitors witnessed the harmony between different ethnic groups, the native, Chinese, Indian, and Westerners under the patronage of King Prajadhipok and the intersection and mix of their culture, architecture style, tradition, and way of life. The exhibition name offered a double meaning (1) Revisiting the old Phuket Circle and its history and (2) Revisiting the exhilaration of the loyal subjects in the south graced with the royal visit.
